Thursday, August 26th
Thursday is supposed to be a beautiful day, so why not celebrate the weekend a bit early? Get a little taste of Grandma’s home cooking and enjoy soul~caribbean~cajun cuisine from Miss Johnnie Mae’s food truck! From 12 cheese mac and cheese, cajun collard greens and fried lemon pepper wings to sweet potato cornbread…anything on her menu is absolutely divine. Catch her at Cork and Grind from 5pm-8pm. If tasty tacos, flatbreads and quesadillas is more of what you had in mind for dinner, head over to the wonderfully confusing and inspiring Cohab Space! They will be hosting West Coast Wanderer food truck serving mouth-watering food that is bursting with flavor from 6pm-9pm. At 7pm, the Charles Ray Concert Series will begin featuring Turpentine Shine with opening act Purple House. If you’re more in the mood for BBQ, we’ve got that option too! Named Eat Drink Triad’s Restaurant Of The Week, Sweet Old Bill’s combines traditional barbecue with contemporary southern cuisine. With techniques and recipes from around the country, they give all BBQ lovers something to drool over! And it’s not a trip Sweet Old Bill’s if you don’t try the brisket nachos. It’s a local favorite that you can be sure to see on just about every table. The brisket combined with queso, chimichurri, smoked corn salsa, black beans, guacamole, green onions, salsa verde and cilantro lime crema – you can be sure to get a mouth full of flavor with every bite! They will also be hosting Dylan Smith from 6:30pm-9:30pm.
Friday, August 27th
Well, well, well….look what finally decided to show up. Hello Friday! Start your weekend off with a good hearty meal. Not only is Friday the best day of the week but it’s also Prime Rib Night at Giannos and Magnolia Blue!Then head over to the High Point Public Library where they are having an end of summer outdoor concert featuring the Singecats from 6pm-8pm. With cool treats from Sophie’s Ice and doughnuts from Pop’s Mini Doughnut Shop, there’s sure to be family fun for everyone! For a fun date-night idea, head over to Cork and Grind and join them for the Final Friday in August. From 6pm-9pm enjoy a pumpkin beer tasting, tacos and games! The Pumpkin Beer Tasting consists of 8 different beers, La Sinaloense Birrieria will have their juicy red tacos, and for games there will be table top pool, foosball and bowling! You are also invited to bring your own games to join in on the fun. Right around the corner from Cork & Grind is Real Kitchen and Market, who will be featuring live music from Michael Leonard from 7pm-10pm. For a Friday night under the lights, watch the High Point Rockers take on the Long Island Ducks with the first pitch at 7:05pm. After the game head across the street for ½ priced wine and live music until 12:30am, from Acoustic Fusion at Plank Street Tavern!
Saturday, August 28th
Saturday morning is not for getting cozy in bed because The Cozy Cannoli will be opening its doors for the day! From 8am-4pm enjoy fun activities along with European style baked goods, treats and coffee from a mom and daughter duo. Not only will there be chocolate covered strawberries, sticky buns, buck eyes and chocolate bark, but there will also be a local produce grower with fresh produce, salsas, sauces and pickles! For some light education, head over to the High Point Museum any time from 10am-2:30pm and join them for the “A” is for Artifact Program: The Letter “M.” This 15-30 minute program is themed around one letter of the alphabet and the artifact/topic of the day. Brown Truck Brewery invites you to namaste and drink beer with Bend & Brews Yoga starting at 11:15am. From 12pm-6pm Catch the Coltrane Photo Exhibit at Gallery On Main. Join them for a photogenic journey down the history of the Coltrane Jazz Festival coming in 2 weeks! It will also feature art from the artist Rhonda “Rhen” Neal’s John Coltrane Collection. Starting at 4pm, hang out in downtown High Point where there will be a Rock The Point Block Party featuring Carolina Ignition. With music, food and inflatables – bring the whole family and make it a fun Saturday for everyone! After, watch the High Point Rockers take on the Long Island Ducks in game 2 of their 3-game series. First pitch will be thrown at 7:05pm and by attending the game, you can register for Digging For Diamonds, presented by Simon Jewelers by signing up at the Guest Services table on the concourse. Prizes include a set of diamond earrings or a diamond necklace. If jazz and New England style seafood is more of your Saturday night vibe, head over to Harbor One for the Live Jazz Wine Down, featuring the Mike Bennett Project from 6pm-9pm. The Brewer’s Kettle is also having Jazz Night from 7pm-10pm. Join them as they welcome The Leon Pridgen Quartet for the first time! Country music legend Crash Craddock will also be in town this Saturday. With nine #1 singles and 18 top-ten charted singles, performances at The Grand Ole Opry, sold-out tours and contributions to the Country Music Hall of Fame – High Point Theatre is excited to host this North Carolina Native! Catch the show starting at 7:30pm.
Sunday, August 29th
Sometimes you need yoga, sometimes you need beer and sometimes you need both. Head over to Goofy Foot Taproom and start your Sunday by joining Caitlyn for Pints & Poses. You can also enjoy $5 mimosas all day! Later, join The Brewer’s Kettle as they host their monthly Cigar Social. $15 gets you a stick and drink! Finally, end your weekend at the stadium and cheer on the High Point Rockers as they take on the Long Island Ducks in game 3. Bring the kids and let them run the bases so you can wear them out before getting them ready for another week of school!
