The High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau is establishing a Sports Committee as well as an Events Committee to help broaden the reach of the many fine facilities including sports and other event venues in our city.  As the city’s destination marketing organization, the mission of the High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau is to create economic development through tourism, which is funded by a voluntary local hotel occupancy tax on overnight stays.  

Sporting events enjoy a broad-based market due to the expansive age range and sheer number of participants and spectators. According to a study by the U.S. Physical Activity Council, from 2011 to 2012, overall spending for Team Sports Outside of School increased from 28.5% to 30.7%. This category includes club play with potential year-round commitments to spend money in other communities on items such as lodging, food and other incidental expenses.

Across the country as the sports market continues to increasingly gain a significant margin of the total tourism dollar, many DMOs are designating as a special sports committee to primarily focus on the athletic events market and its unique needs. As a substantial revenue generator, DMOs like ours will work closely with the upcoming sports committee to ensure that every event is a flawless and trouble free experience for the planner, participants and spectators.

We can help you choose a date that doesn’t compete with other community events. Assistance with bid preparation is another common request. Selecting the correct venue, hotel rates, registration support, and restaurant and attraction information are some of the very basic needs we provide guidance with. Do you need a local organizing committee, photographer or equipment rentals? An official welcome from a city official? A specialized group of volunteers? We can help you plan opening and closing ceremonies or secure needed city services, and more. Discounts for meals, attractions, registration and other services also can be provided.

The High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau can also provide you with a wealth of free information. We’ll partner with you to increase your manpower and make your budget go further. This ultimately gives you what event planners need the most – more boots on the ground, more money and as a result of those two things – more productive time spent.

We have a good relationship with local venues and this can save event planners a lot of time. We can put you in contact with the correct person, assist you with the rental agreement and share important local information. We can search for grants or other funding that may be available.  You’ll work with one contact person so your event runs smoothly.  

We are experienced in putting together complicated bids by gathering the necessary information and presenting it professionally as a packet, a PowerPoint presentation or an in-person presentation. We also offer assistance with bid fees.
